Neighbourhood Award success for Darndale

Darndale’s Buttercup Buzbees won third place in the Endeavour Award category at the overall Dublin City Council Neighbourhood Awards 2025.

It was a remarkable achievement for the local environmental group, which has only been in existence for a couple of years, but has transformed the Buttercup Drive neighbourhood and enjoyed consistent success at the North Central Area Neighbourhood Awards and overall Awards.

The competition aims to bring about a cleaner, greener environment and make areas more attractive through community participation.

The awards ceremony, at the Clayton Hotel, Ballsbridge, celebrated the dedication of local volunteers who work tirelessly to enhance their areas.

Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Ray McAdam, presented the award to local woman Grace Fitzgerald on behalf of the Buttercup Buzbees in the presence of Dublin City Council Assistant Chief Executive, Anthony Flynn.

According to the Lord Mayor, the Awards celebrate the heart and soul of the capital and its communities.

“For more than two decades, these Awards have shone a light on the extraordinary spirit of Dubliners — the residents, volunteers, community groups, schools, and local businesses who give their time, energy, and imagination to make our city better.

“From the northside to the southside, from the inner city to the suburbs, every corner of Dublin has its own story of pride and progress.

“Together, those stories weave the fabric of a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant Dublin — a living city powered by people who care deeply about the place they call home.”

The achievement drew praise from the Darndale Implementation Oversight Group, a Dublin City Council initiative to tackle complex and engrained issues in Darndale.

Group chair, Dr Jack Nolan, said the success proved what could be achieved when communities come together for the betterment of the area.

“Buttercup Buzbees have become tireless advocates for their environment and the efforts of Grace Fitzgerald and her team have been remarkable,” he said.

“I laud their achievements, which show how people coming together for the good of their locality can be a catalyst for real change and recognised at the highest level.”
